The most hilarious thing to happen to me since moving here.

Against my mothers pleads, I waited until after my Ohio license expired to start researching how to get a Washington license. It turns out that because my license is expired already, if I want a Washington license I must take not only the written exam but the driving exam additionally.

Now, there's supposedly something called an "extension letter" that Ohio can issue to me that will prevent the Washington DMV from "throwing me in with all the 16 year olds" (as the kind WA DMV customer service man put it) but Ohio claims this letter doesn't exist.

Instead, Ohio can send me a renewal license package in the mail (ETA 3 weeks) that I can fill out and send back. I will have a new, photo-less license issued to me in the mail (ETA 8 weeks).

So I can either have a blank driver's license (what's the fun in that?) from Ohio or I can take the Washington Driving Exam (do I get to pick the music, Mr. Examiner?). I mean, can you imagine? A 25 year old with a license taking the test all over again--do I have to study parallel parking again? What traffic laws do I need to brush up on? What if I fail the first time? What would Jesus do?

What I'm most delighted by is the fact that I'm not even put off or annoyed in the slightest by this ridonkulousness. When I think about having to take the tests all over again like a 16 year old, I put my head down on my desk and shake with laughter for minutes on end. It feels like something out of Curb Your Enthusiasm--a fact I feel all too giggly and pleased about.
