2006-03-15 - 3:04 p.m. So I've been gone for a while. Sorry? It's mostly just been a month or so of worrying and uzbek songs to make me feel better. Is it better? Time will do the talking, bitches. Do you know what phrase I hate? "Red-headed stepchild." What does that even mean? That doesn't have any historical or cultural basis whatsoever-so why do people say it so much? Seriously, when people say it, I want to punch them really really hard in the face. It's like saying, "Oh, she's the curly-haired leopard of the family." What? No. No. That doesn't make sense. Stop. It's interesting to note that the one peace corps volunteer who says "red-headed stepchild" the most is the one who also does the forced fake laugh when he reads e-mails to make you hear what his red-headed stepchild friends wrote to him. May I also note that I have been using the phrase, "Bitches!" to describe everything and anything angering under the Turkmen sun the past week and I've made the mistake of using in front of 1) students, 2) the peace corps director, and 3) my little sister all in the span of a week. When I am forced to eat sand-made lye soap as a deterrent to my dirtydirty mouth, please don't be surprised.
